Art

I was looking for a fun way to display lil man's wonderful art work.  This is what I came up with.

There isn't one site I looked at and thought, I want to do that.  I knew I wanted something that I could easily change out the art.  I started first with just the twine and art work.  I knew it needed something above it.

I was going to take a piece of pallet and stencil some amazing quote about children and art on it.  Well that didn't happen hah.  I couldn't find a quote and I hate cutting out stencils.

Then I discovered the joys of printing on fabric!  Seriously, you can run fabric right through you printer.  That opened a whole new world of ideas.

So I downloaded a very cool font, monbijoux, from dafont,  printed each letter on its own fabric and enhanced it with stitches.

I knew I wanted them to be linked together some how so I found some fun yarn from my stash and started wrapping.  Throw in a little twine and I love it!

Thrift Store Finds

I *love* thrifting.  Its a new found love.  I used to go and look for clothes, but it's really hard for me to find clothes that I like and fit right, so I kinda gave up.  Then last year when I really started crafting I realized it thrifting is amazing! I go about once a week to the 2 local ones.  About once a month I head up to Columbus and hit some a few up there.

Heres my scores this week, I picked up a few things but these are my favorites!

I found 5 copies of Jack and Jill childrens magazine from the 1950's.  I love them!  The art work, the black and white pictures, its all so fun!  I have to idea what I'm going to do with them but I couldn't pass it up.

Stitch Swap

I *love* Wild Olive, its one of the first blogs I started reading.  Her projects are great and her patterns are beautiful.

So when she said she was hosting a stitch swap I was all over that!  I can't wait to find out who my partner is and start stitching.  She had 270 people sign up for the swap, of course she's wonderful.  Today is the last day to sign up.

Blueberry, Lemon, White Chocolate Chip Cookies!

What better to do on a cold semi snowy day?  Well bake cookies of course!   My wonderful husband bought me Isa and Terry's vegan cookie book for Christmas.  I am a big Isa fan, she has the most amazing cook books.  I've been cooking my way through it.  I wanted to change it up today.  I had some frozen blue berries that were screaming my name but I wasn't in a muffin mood.  I also kinda wanted come chocolate chips, but I didn't have any =(  After raiding my pantry I found some white chocolate chips.  Hmm blueberries, white chocolate chips.  Good start, how about we throw some lemon in there maybe a little sea salt.  I adapted these from the standard chocolate chip cookie recipe.

Blueberry, Lemon, White Chocolate Chip Cookies
1/4 brown sugar
1/2 raw sugar
1/3 cup canola oil
1/4 cup unsweetened almond milk (or your favorite non-dairy milk)
1 tablespoon cornstartch
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
juice and zest from half a lemon
2 cups white wheat flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup white chocolate chips
1/2 cup blueberries

Preheat oven to 350 F. Lightly grease two large light metal baking sheets.
Mix together sugars, oil, milk and corn startch in a mixing bowl. Use a strong fork and mix really well, for about 2 minutes, until it resembles smooth caramel. There is a chemical reaction when sugar and oil collide, so it’s important that you don’t get lazy about that step. Mix in the vanilla, lemon juice and zest.
Add 1 cup of the flour, the baking soda and salt. Mix until well incorporated. Mix in the rest of the flour.  Add in white chocolate chips and blueberries.  My dough was a little runny so I did add a little more flour till it was the right consistency.
I used a cookie scoop.  They will spread just a bit. Place on a baking sheet and bake for about 12 minutes until they are just a little browned around the edges.  Let cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes then transfer to a cooling rack.
Thanks Isa! This was a wonderful recipe it was so much fun adapting it today!

Perspective....

blah....One of those days....

We have just had one of those days around here today.  I feel like all I did all day was yell and clean up messes.  I sat down once earlier today and thought really, can it get any worse.  Then I saw something a friends Facebook, a friend of a friend's house burnt down 2 weeks ago and then this morning she went into labor and had a baby 10 weeks early.  So yes it can get worse.

I instantly felt horrible, here I am complaining over meaningless nothingness.  I am very lucky, we are all healthy, we have a nice house, my husband has a good job.  We are good.  I needed a perspective today.  I really need to learn to be more thankful and grateful for what I have.  Have a wonderful evening....
